    Cannabis Laws And The Workplace

The line between legal and illicit drug use, particularly when marijuana is involved has become increasingly blurry. Employers in locations with medical marijuana laws who wish to ensure a safe productive workforce need to know what they can and cannot do, what they must and need not do with respect to employees holding prescriptions for medical marijuana.  We will talk about the trends nationally and in New York state concerning how the courts, legislatures and employers are dealing with the impact of legalization of marijuana in the workplace.

    This workshop will explain:

    • How the new laws will impact the role of HR with respect to reasonable accommodation
    • The impact of drug testing/screening for applicants and employees.
    • How the laws specifically address discrimination based on medical use of cannabis and how the courts have addressed the workplace issues that have arisen.
