2007 Student Conference and HRGames Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ March 30, 31, 2007
The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and New Jersey’s Garden State Council invites student chapters to participate in this year’s SHRM Northeast Regional Student Conference and HRGames. This is the first year that this exciting event will take place in the Northeast. We hope you’ll join us on March 30 and 31 at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ.
The theme of the conference is Career GPS: Navigating My Future, and this event will incorporate networking opportunities and educational sessions that allow students to expand your knowledge of human resource management in a fun and exciting way. Keynote speakers will inform, inspire and entertain participants, while breakout sessions will teach skills vital to a career in human resources. Below is a sample of what will be featured at the 2007 Northeast Regional Student Conference and HR Games:
HRGames: The HRGames competition for SHRM Student Chapters was designed to foster friendly competition between universities. It provides a positive and exciting way to prepare students for the human resource profession and the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification exam conducted by the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI). Using a “Jeopardy style” format, teams of up to three students from each student chapter compete over several rounds to reach the finals. In addition to the pride in being chosen to represent their university, each student team is competing for scholarships and awards as well.
Pre-Conference Activity: Rutgers University will be concluding their Business Conference on Friday, March 30th with keynote speaker Steve Miranda, SPHR, GPHR, SHRM’s Chief Human Resource and Strategic Planning Officer. Steve’s presentation will also be the kick-off for SHRM’s Northeast Student Conference and HRGames.
Sessions: During the conference there will be several sessions specifically designed to encourage and prepare students for interviews and resume development.
Predictive Index: Augur Inc. will be offering all students the opportunity to participate in the Predictive Index (PI) personal evaluation. The PI provides each participant with a roadmap of their characteristics helping them identify the job that best matches their personality and skills.
Case Study Competition: Students also have the opportunity to participate in our case study competition entitled “Backpack to Briefcase”. Students will be provided a real-life case study in advance and will present it to a panel of judges, with a potential scholarship as the prize!
Awards Dinner/Banquet: For the finale, there will be an awards banquet Saturday night for students to relax, eat good food, and network with other chapter members. There will be live entertainment (an HR Comedy Troupe), HRGames awards and the Case Study award presentations.
